The UFC has ruled out the fight McGregor vs former champion at lightweight in December
UFC President Dana white said that former champion of the promotion in two weight categories Conor McGregor will meet in the next battle with the American Frankie Edgar. According to him, the Irish fighter will return to the ring not before 2020.
Eve McGregor and Edgar, previously owned a title of the champion of UFC lightweight champion, agreed to fight in December and asked white to organize this fight. The Irishman promised to pay his fee for the potential performance to charity.
«McGregor likes to fight and he wants to reenter the ring, but the fight against Edgar will not take place. Frankie stands at two weight classes below. His career is over and he can still compete for the title, so it makes no sense to take up the challenge McGregor. I think the next fight Conor will be in 2020,» — said white in an interview with the YouTube channel of the Boston Herald.
Last fight McGregor in October of last year in Las Vegas. At UFC 229 Irish were defeated by Russian Habib Nurmagomedov, surrendering after suffocating reception in the fourth round.
In the course of a career in mixed martial arts McGregor has spent 25 fights, won 21 (18 KOs). The athlete became the first UFC fighter who managed to win championship belts in two categories — in 2016, he owned titles in the lightweight and Featherweight.
