Two Russian player got into the team of the week in qualifying for UEFA Euro 2020
UEFA has published the symbolic team according to the results of week of the qualifying tournament of Euro 2020. It included two Russian players — defender Andrey Semenov and midfielder Denis Cheryshev.
In the October games, the Russian team defeated Scotland (4:0) and Cyprus (5:0). Semenov played in Central defense for 90 minutes in both matches. Cheryshev in the game against Cyprus and scored two goals and made two assists.
Also in the team of the week included goalkeeper MERT Gunok, defenders Merih was Demiral (both — Turkey) and Rogvi Baldvinsson (Faroe Islands), Midfielders Ruslan Malinovskiy (Ukraine), Eran Zahavi (Israel) and John McGinn (Scotland), and forwards Harry Kane (England), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium) and Robert Lewandowski (Poland).
Victory over Cyprus allowed the Russian team for two rounds before the end of the qualifying games of the tournament to qualify for the final tournament of the European championship. The team of Stanislav Cherchesov have guaranteed themselves at least second place in the group.
The Russian team won seven official matches in a row is a repetition of the best result in the history of the national team. Before that in the qualifying tournament, Euro 2020, the Russian players defeated Kazakhstan (4:0 and 1:0), Scotland (2:1), San Marino (9:0) and Cyprus (1:0).
