Theodosius (krymskotat. Kefe, KEF, from the Greek. Θεοδοσία — «God-given») — a port and resort city in the South-East of the Crimea, located on the coast of the Feodosia Bay and the slopes of the spurs of the ridge Tepe-Oba. The city was founded by Greek colonists from Miletus in the VI century BC, and its history is inseparable from the history of the rest of the Eastern Crimea: the city owned in turn by the Romans, Byzantines, Genoese, Turks and Russians.

From 355 BC Theodosius was part of the Bosporan Kingdom, the area was inhabited by tribes of Alans, called Theodosius Ardabda. With the V century the city was ruled by the Byzantine Empire, fell into disrepair and was a small village, trapped in the XIII century, under the influence of the Golden Horde.
Later the town was bought by the Genoese, who created here a major trading port of Kaffa. Kaffa soon turned into a big city and command center of the Genoese colonies in the Northern black sea, in the city there was a branch of the Bank of Genoa, the theatre, the mint. In 1475 Kaffa was at the mercy of the Ottoman Empire, the Turks called Theodosia KEF, with them in the city, gradually coming to the decline was the largest in the Northern black sea slave market.
In 1771 Theodosius stormed the Russian troops, in 1774, the Crimea became Russian, and in 1787 became part of the Taurian region. In 1804, the city got back its ancient name — Feodosia. In the beginning of XX century the city became the epicenter of the fighting the Soviet Republic of Tavrida against the Austro-German, the Anglo-French troops and white guard units. During the Second world war, the city was twice occupied by the German army in November 1941 and January 1942. Finally Theodosius was released on 13 April 1944 during the General offensive of the red Army. In 1954 Feodosiya in the Crimea region was transferred to the Ukrainian SSR. Since 1970-ies Theodosius develops as a seaside resort. In 2014, together with other villages in the Peninsula of Crimea is part of Russia.
