Ex-coach of Russian national team Blatt was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
The former coach of Russian national team on basketball David Blatt admitted that he was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. He reported about the illness in an open letter published on the official website of the Greek «Olympiakos».
The disease was found in Blatt doctors Olympiacos. Despite the seriousness of the disease 60-year-old coach was going to continue in the Greek team, a contract which is for one year.
Blatt said that was determined to fight multiple sclerosis and have developed a special technique that should help him to adapt to the disease and continue to live a normal life. According to the coach, the disease manifests in weakness of the legs and problems with balance.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the destruction of the shell of the nerves. The disease leads to neurological symptoms such as weakness and numbness in the extremities, blurred vision, dizziness and instability while walking.
Blatt plans to fight the disease, exercises to strengthen legs and balance training, including in water. He’s going to move more to avoid muscle paralysis and to continue to perform the duties of coach.
In Russia, Blatt has headed the Moscow and St. Petersburg «Dynamo», and from 2006 to 2012 was the head coach of Russian national team. Under his leadership, the Russian team won the European championship in basketball, and also won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.
